Vorarlberg’s most popular speciality is cheese, notably the spicy Alp and Bergkäse, a hard mountain cheese. It is manufactured on many small dairy-making farms, partly on high-alpine homesteads during the summer. Other delicacies include Emmental, and tender cream cheese made of cow’s, goat’s and sheep’s milk. Creamy camemberts round off the product line. Sura Kees, a mildly aromatic low-fat cheese, is typical of the Montafon region.
