The ultimate climbing discipline

Alpine climbing

Big rock faces, bigger feelings, dizzying heights and breathtaking views…

Alpine climbing is climbing at its most extreme: To reach the top, climbers must navigate exposed sections, steep walls and precarious rocky outcroppings. This most ultimate of Alpine disciplines demands mountaineering skills, experience with the rope and climbing gear and a healthy dose of courage.

Summiting the  Zimba (2,643m) is a difficulty level III (UIAA) Alpine climb, which has fascinated Alpinists throughout the country for generations. Due to it’s unusual shape, it is often referred to as the “Matterhorn of the Rätikon.” The route starts from the Heinrich-Hueter-Hütte mountain hut at 1,766m and leads up to the Zimbajoch ridge (2,387m). From here it’s a straight climb over the west ridge to the summit cross. Those interested can book a tour with the Montafon mountain guides.

      Description

A real challenge in the Rätikon is the ascent of the Zimba. For generations, the 2,643-meter-high mountain has fascinated alpinists across the country. Due to its extraordinary shape, the Zimba is often described as the Montafon Matterhorn. Neither a hiking trail nor a via ferrata leads to the summit, and it takes courage, a good head for heights, and stamina to master the demanding rock tour of difficulty grade III.
