Crisp snow and breathtaking views—in just a few minutes by mountain railway, you’ll find yourself in the midst of a winter landscape full of panoramic views. The ideal starting point for a winter hike or snowshoe tour with stunning views!

Many mountain railways offer one-way tickets up and down the mountain or special “sun” rates for pedestrians. From the mountain station, trails and paths lead off the slopes through forests, to the summit cross, or along a panoramic trail.

01 From Sonnenkopf to Muttjöchle

From the upper station of the Sonnenkopfbahn, a groomed winter hiking trail leads to a scenic summit hike at over 2,000 meters above sea level. At the Muttjöchle summit cross, you can enjoy an impressive panoramic view of the surrounding mountains. From the Sonnenkopf, you can also take a snowshoe hike to the Muttjöchle.

02 Circular Trail at Sonderdach

From the Sonderdach panoramic restaurant (the upper station of the Bezau cable car), a leisurely loop hike leads through the snow-covered Vorsäß area. The trail is perfectly groomed and can be enjoyed by the whole family on foot or with snowshoes.

03 The Long Kristberg Loop

This beautiful, scenic winter hike—which takes about 2 hours—first follows the Panorama Trail and then winds through wooded areas and past cornfields before returning to the Kristbergbahn mountain station.

04 Snowflake Panorama Trail at Rüfikopf

After arriving directly at the summit via the Rüfikopfbahn, near the panoramic restaurant, the Kästle Mountain Museum, and the observation deck, the easy circular trail begins at an elevation of 2,350 meters above sea level. The tour, which takes about 1.5 hours, is also suitable for children.

05 Partnomroute Sonntag-Stein

The Sonntag-Stein gondola lift in the Großes Walsertal Biosphere Park takes you to the starting point of the groomed winter hiking trail to Alpe Unterpartnom, which takes about 2 hours to complete. Alternatively, you can return by toboggan if you bring one with you.

06 Mellau — On the Way to the Wild and Romantic Valley

Once you arrive at the top station of the Mellau Mountain Railway, the loop trail leads away from the slope into the Ufernalpe area, with its wild and romantic valley head. Steep north-facing walls are covered with a thick layer of ice and icicles. Since there is very little elevation gain, the tour is also well suited for families.
