The starting point for this premier hike is in Schröcken-Neßlegg at the “Alpenblick” bus stop. After passing the Alpenblick building, follow the local road for a short distance before taking a trail through the Litzetobel gorge into the Schmitte district. Behind the last houses, a farm road branches off to the right and leads through the forest—this high-altitude trail continues all the way to the “Wald” parcel. There, the route passes a farmhouse and continues downhill for about one kilometer on the paved road to Schwand. In Schwand, continue following the farm road downhill to Unterboden. After passing through the settlement and past the chapel, you’ll reach the soccer field.
The trail now runs along the field and through a wooded area down to Landsteg. From there, a farm road leads uphill to the Biberacher Hütte. The route continues along the Nordalpenweg, past the Schadonaalpe to the Liethi-Hütte. From here, a trail crosses the mountain ridge, largely maintaining the same elevation.
Note: Rothorn Summit Option – If you still have energy to spare, you can veer left off the trail to climb the summit of the Rothorn (an additional, very steep 325 meters of elevation gain). The descent follows the same path back to the main route.
The trail then continues past the “Oberes Seeli” and up to the Fürggele.
Note: Hochberg summit option – Here, too, you have the option to climb the summit of the Hochberg (an additional, equally steep 310 meters of elevation gain). Return via the same trail back to the Fürggele.
Passing the Sattelkopf, behind the Fürggele, the trail leads downhill to just before the Alpe Felle. A trail branches off to the right, crosses a bridge, and joins a farm road. Follow this road uphill, past the “Alpmuseum uf m Tannberg,” to Körbersee. At the Berghotel Körbersee, the trail continues toward Kalbelesee and the Hochtannberg Pass.
After the Salober parking lot, you’ll reach the valley station of the Salober-Jet. From there, continue to the valley station of the Kuchelbahn (2-seater chairlift) and finally to Hochkrumbach. Behind the Hotel Jägeralpe, the “Alte Salzstraße” hiking trail leads to Wolfegg. There, you cross the Hämmabach stream and reach the Hotel Steffisalp.
After walking about 500 meters along the road, you’ll pass the Warth Church and continue on to the Warth Tourist Office. Behind the Tourist Office, a municipal road leads uphill, merging into the village loop trail. This, in turn, merges into a farm road, which you follow uphill for a short distance beneath the Steffisalp-Express. At a small hut, a trail branches off to the right. Crossing the Hämmabach, the route takes you past the Punschhütte to the mountain station of the Steffisalp-Express.
Tip for an easier ascent: You can also use the Steffisalp Express to cover the elevation gain.
From the mountain station, a hiking trail runs along the base of the Wartherhorn to Bürstegg.
Note: Wannenkopf summit option – The summit cross on the Wannenkopf can be reached via a short climb of only about 50 meters in elevation. Return via the same trail back to the main route.
Shortly after passing the quaint houses in Bürstegg, the trail turns right and heads uphill. The route leads to the Auenfeldsattel and, at a fork, continues left to the Untere Auenfeldalpe. Then follow the farm road downhill until a narrow hiking trail on the right leads up a few steps to the Körbersee. This time, the route heads uphill along the Körbersee to the Berghotel Körbersee. From there, follow the farm road downhill until a trail branches off to the right through the forest at the first curve. This trail leads back to Neßlegg—the starting point of the tour.

Directions
The supreme discipline starts in Schröcken Nesslegg at the “Alpenblick” bus stop. After the Alpenblick house, follow the side road along a path through the Litzetobel to the district of Schmitte. Shortly after the houses, a goods road leads into the forest on the right – follow this mountain path into the district of Wald, where you walk past a farmhouse for a kilometer on the asphalt road down to Schwand. Pass this farmhouse and follow the goods road down to Unterboden. Pass through the settlement, past the chapel to the soccer pitch. Along the soccer pitch, the path leads through the forest to Landsteg, from where a goods road leads up to the Biberacher Hütte. Follow the Nordalpenweg past the Schadonaalpe to the Liethi hut. From there, cross the ridge on a path (keep your altitude!). Watch out for summit luck: if even our supreme discipline is not enough, you can still take the summit to the Rothorn from this trail to the top left (additional – very steep – 325 m) The same path leads from the summit back to the route, where you then pass the “Oberes Seeli” and continue up to the Fürggele. Watch out for summit luck: from here you could take another ascent to the summit of the Hochberg (additional – very steep – 310 m ascent). Follow the same path from the summit back up to Fürggele, then take the hiking trail behind Fürggele back down to just before Alpe Felle, where a path leads off to the right and takes you over a bridge onto a goods road. Follow the goods road up past the “Alpmuseum uf m Tannberg” and on up to Körbersee. Walk past the Körbersee mountain hotel in the direction of the Kalbelesee lake and the Hochtannberg Pass. Via the Salober parking lot you then reach the valley station of the Salober Jet, past which you continue to the valley station of the Kuchelbahn (2-seater chairlift) and on to Hochkrumbach. After the Hotel Jägeralpe, follow the “Alte Salzstraße” hiking trail until you cross the Hämmabach stream in Wolfegg and arrive at the Hotel Steffisalp. Walk 500 meters along the road to the Warth church and on to the Warth tourist office. Behind the tourist office, a side road leads uphill, which merges into the path of the village trail. This then turns into a goods road, which you follow briefly upwards under the Steffisalp-Express until a path leads off to the right at a small hut. Cross the Hämmabach stream up past the Punschhütte hut to the mountain station of the Steffisalp Express. Ascent aid: You can alternatively cover these meters in altitude with the Steffisalp-Express! Attention summit luck: with only 50 additional meters of altitude, you can take the summit cross of the Wannenkopf with you! The same path then leads you back to the route. Shortly after the old houses in Bürstegg, turn right onto the hiking trail uphill. Continue to the Auenfeldsattel and at the junction turn right to the Untere Auenfeldalpe. Follow the goods road downwards until a narrow hiking trail on the right leads over a few steps back to Körbersee. This time you walk along the Körbersee up to the Berghotel Körbersee and down to the left along the goods road until a path leads off to the right through the forest at the first bend. Follow the path back to Nesslegg.
