War memorial
-
The design for the monument comes from Willi Huber, the suggestion was given by the then pastor Lutz. It came about through voluntary work and donations. In a call at that time it said: “We turn to the population. Traders and farmers have a good year behind them. ” The construction costs of about 5,000 Reichsmark could easily be raised. At the time of its construction, no one suspected that a few years later an even worse war would break out. In 1956, the names of the fallen and missing persons of World War II were engraved on marble tablets. The oversized soldiers figures in the barrel-vaulted interior are a carving work by Wilhelm Math from Oberstdorf. Three maple trees in front of the monument symbolize the villages Riezlern, Hirschegg and Mittelberg.
