School Schwende

Schulhaus in der Schwende
Kulturweg: Schule Schwende

Factbox

  • In 1796, the households of the Schwende plot got together to set up a school through voluntary donations. At 31, the first teacher in the schoolroom of the farmhouse of Mrs. Barbara Schugg began teaching. He received a weekly wage of 1 guilder 52 kreuzer. In 1802 the Schwendiger built their own schoolhouse, which was used for 158 years. The number of pupils increased from an average of 25 to 30, in 1836 even to 43 and in 1841 37 children attended the school. The lack of space and above all the lack of sanitary conditions did not allow a new building to be deferred until the end of the 1950s. On October 2, 1960, the children were able to move into the finished, modern school building. In the following years, the number of pupils increased, divided into eight grades at 40 children. In the fall of 1971, the school, which was only ten years old, was closed and lessons were taken in the new school center in Riezlern.
