Schlosskaffee, Hohenems
-
We are standing here in front of the present Schloss Café, which looks back on avaried history. In 1820, a predecessor house was built at this site by a Jewish wine merchant. 28 years later it was acquired by the banking family Schwarz, who then sold it in 1892 to Ludmilla Durgiae-Mathis. Only six years later renovations were planned by August Amann and carried out in a historicized style by Peter Anton Durgiai. In 1939 this town house was sold to the master confectioner Fenkart and has carried on business as the “Schloss Café” ever since.
