Anniversary Year 2018

Feldkirch 800

In 2018, we’re celebrating the city’s 800th anniversary with various events, festivals, publications and a large exhibition at the Palais Liechtenstein.

800 Years of Feldkirch

At the forefront of this anniversary in 2018 is the city’s history including its significant roll in the era of humanism. Other key topics include the city’s role as a border town throughout the centuries in addition to an outlook on the future.

Anniversary exhibition: “From Hugo to today” at the Palais Liechtenstein
The highlight of the anniversary year is the exhibition “From Hugo to Today” at the Palais Liechtenstein, which will run from 24 March to 25 November 2018. “The exhibition spans the 800-year history of the city and provides insights into current topics of debate present in everyday life in Feldkirch. For example, we’re tackling the everyday fate of individual citizens of Feldkirch as well as the perspectives of three artists that capture the special character of various city districts. The Monstrance by Hieronymus Münzer, which is on loan from the diocese of Feldkirch, is a particularly important object on display,” said Curator and City Librarian Hans Gruber when presenting a first impression of the exhibition’s diversity.

Partner projects
The spectrum of events extents from concerts to performances and theatre plays in addition to special kids’ tours through the anniversary exhibition. Three important topics, namely humanism, borders and successful living, act as the guiding principals of the anniversary year and its event programme. Weekends in autumn are also dedicated to this special anniversary year, e.g., a large celebration for young people as well as the very first staging of the Lichtstadt Feldkirch festival of lights.
