Current – Closure of the Arlberg road tunnel
The Arlberg road tunnel (S16) is expected to be completely closed until November 22, 2024 due to necessary renovation work in the summer months of 2024.
Information for cyclists: due to the renovation of the Arlberg road tunnel and the resulting ban on uphill cycling on the pass road, a bike cab is now also available on the Vorarlberg side. The “BIKE-TAXI-ARLBERG” is offered to get over the Arlberg Pass. By telephone (+43 676 441 73 50), cyclists can be transported to the top of the pass by cab and bicycle trailer between 07:30 and 18:30.
Current road-condition reports are available from the ÖAMTC and ARBÖ automobile clubs and via the local radio stations “ORF Radio Vorarlberg” and “Antenne Vorarlberg” (ultra-shortwave radio, frequencies posted along the highway).

Silvretta Hochalpenstraße (High Alpine Road)/Montafon
In summer it is one of the most beautiful and popular panoramic roads in the Alps, in the winter months it is closed! The toll road leads 22.3 km from Partenen in Montafon (1,051 m) in 34 hairpin bends over the Bielerhöhe at 2,032 m to Galtür (1,584 m) in Paznauntal. The Silvretta High Alpine Road is closed to public traffic in winter. The exact date of closure depends on weather/snow conditions. Current information and opening times here:
Please note that there is a general winter closure for some high alpine roads, e.g. Warth – Lech (L 198) , Laterns – Damüls (L 51 – Furkajoch).
