Stroll through forests, explore moorlands and discover the secrets and powers of local herbs. Certified nature guides and herb educators invite you to immerse yourself in Vorarlberg’s diverse natural landscape and experience nature with all your senses.
We have compiled tips and offerings for herb walks, meadow hikes and moorland excursions in Vorarlberg. Make sure the guided tours are offered in English language before booking.
Throughout the year, Mother Nature provides us with wild herbs that are rich in vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals. Whether used in cooking or cosmetics – the versatility of wild herbs is fascinating and invites you to discover their effects and beauty. Under the motto “NATURerfahren”, herbal educator Katharina Moosbrugger leads herb-gathering walks through the “Fohramoos” nature reserve at Bödele above Schwarzenberg. These walks offer a wonderful opportunity to explore the world of plants and moorlands while deepening your knowledge of herbs.
In addition to the herbal walks, from April to October visitors can also request guided experiences to immerse themselves in the mysterious cosmos of the forest, discover the magical powers of trees, and engage all their senses: touching, marveling, feeling, experiencing and tasting.
In the Grosses Walsertal Biosphere Park, local herb experts from the valley guide a two-and-a-half-hour meadow and herb hike. Along the way, participants learn about various herbs, discover which ones are edible, and learn how to prepare them.
The hikes and meeting points vary and will be communicated by the respective herb guide upon registration.
For holders of the Lech Card, a guided herbal hike with Veronika Walch takes place every Monday. The certified herbalist and hiking guide provides insight into the fascinating world of Lech mountain herbs and shares valuable knowledge about herbs and medicinal plants.
In her own herb workshop Kräuterwerkstatt Lech, Veronika Walch offers additional excellent programs for those interested in herbs.
In Krumbach, visitors can explore the local moorland landscape along a hiking trail. Nature and history of the moors come alive at 14 moor seats (Moorsitze). The ‘moor room’ alone is worth a visit – a covered platform designed by Bregenzerwald architect Bernardo Bader.
From June to September, moor guides lead weekly two-hour excursions through the Krumbach moors. A special highlight is the dawn moor hike between 6 and 8 am, followed by a moor breakfast hosted by local moorland innkeepers during the summer months.
The flora on the 2,350-metre-high Rüfikopf above Lech Zürs am Arlberg is impressively diverse. The plants that thrive in these zones are among the most inventive, hardy and resilient that the plant world has to offer. The BlütenReich Rüfikopf trail provides insights. The circular trail takes hikers around 45 minutes to complete. An accompanying alpine flower booklet is available at the Rüfikopf panorama restaurant, at the Rüfikopfbahn cable car ticket office and from Lech Zürs Tourismus.
The Holdamoos nature experience features a herb garden that captivates visitors with its colors, fragrances and hidden healing properties. These plants continue to be used for human and animal health, just as they were in times past. A guided tour through the “Kingdom of Herbs” takes place weekly from May to September.
The approximately 1.5 km flower educational trail leads from the middle station to the mountain station of the Stafelalpbahn in Faschina in the Grosses Walsertal Biosphere Park. Along the marked hiking trail, visitors can learn about the plant diversity of the Grosses Walsertal. The information boards are updated according to the current blooming season. Expert-guided hikes are available from June to early October. The tour takes about one hour.

DescriptionThe Holdamoos natural experience illustratres 440 years of alp history. A “Vorsäßhütte” – a mountain pasture hut – dating back 440 years and still in tis original condition, a suspension bridge, a small lake and a herb garden boastin over 150 different herbs lie in the middle of the cultivated, natural landscape. DescriptionThe Fohramoos, a high moorland with bog forests and a small artificial lake, stretches across the Bödele above Schwarzenberg. Birch, pine and upright growing mountain pine provide shade on hot days. It’s quite possible to see frogs and dragonflies along the way.
