Directions
From Riezlern you set out into the valley. Some minutes from the vibrant village square the world becomes a more peaceful one. At Zwerwald, passing pastures and fields, the trail leads to the Breitach, a rushing mountain stream beside which you hike further into the valley past forests and clearings. The sulphur spring invites hikers to pause for a while and cool their feet in the wading pool. A little later, you reach the historic covered Leidtobel bridge and the Leidtobel Chapel of Our Lady.
Until 1930, this was the “main road” through the Kleinwalsertal. The trail now takes a turn uphill to Hirschegg, where you take the Heuberg chairlift in the village centre. After floating for a few minutes, you reach the panorama trail, which truly deserves its name. En route, vistas of the mountain range from Söllereck to the peak of Widderstein unfold, right into the Wildental and Gemstel valleys. Passing rustic alpine shelters and mountain inns, after Stutzalp the trail leads down to the Baad high-altitude trail which ends at St. Martin’s mountain church in Baad. Now return along the Breitach river to Mittelberg, Hirschegg or Riezlern. A Walserbus runs back to the villages from Baad.
Useful hint: You may also start the hike in Mittelberg using the Zaferna chairlift.Start Riezlern, Hirschegg, Mittelberg or Baad
