    From Lake Formarinsee in the Zugertal valley, you follow a well signposted hiking trail to the panoramic summit of Roggelskopf. The view stretches from the Klostertal valley to the peaks of the Lechquell mountains.

    From the car park near Lake Formarinsee, take the wide forest road towards the Freiburger hut. After about 20 minutes there is a signposted path to the summit Roggelskopf on the right just before the Freiburger hut. The grassy path meanders through the hilly terrain. There is no difference in altitude here. After about 30 minutes you reach the Gwurfjoch, the signs to the summit are marked blue and white. The way leads moderately steeply uphill up to the summit construction. At the foot of the summit you can see the Klostertal valley, the summit Rote Wand and the Lechquellgebirge from a saddle. The terrain is rocky. Some passages on the further ascent are secured with climbing aids and rope insurances. On the ascent there are some I and II grade climbing passages. The tour requires a head for heights and sure-footedness. After 30 minutes you reach the summit. The view reaches from the Klostertal valley, Dalaas, to the summit Rote Wand and the Lechquellgebirge. The descent is the same as the ascent.

    A stop at the Freiburger hut pays off, the apple strudel and Kaiserschmarren delight every mountaineer's heart.

  • Directions

    By bus or car from Lech to Zug, past the toll station and on to the Zugertal valley to the car park at Lake Formarinsee. This is where the tour starts. The trail leads slightly uphill along the wide forest road towards the Freiburger hut. Lake Formarinsee lies in a depression to the left below the forest road. After about 20 minutes, a signposted path leads to the peak of the summit Roggelskopf on the right shortly before the Freiburger hut. The path to the west is grassy and meanders through the hilly terrain. There is no difference in altitude here. After about 30 minutes you reach the Gwurfjoch a Plaeteau, the signs to the summit are marked blue and white. The way leads moderately steeply uphill up to the summit construction. At the foot of the summit you can see the Klostertal valley, the summit Rote Wand and the summits of Lechquellgebirge from a saddle. The view is fantastic, one should also be free of vertigo and sure-footed for the further ascent. It is only 30 minutes from the saddle to the summit. The ascent leads through boulders and rocks. Some passages are secured with climbing aids and rope insurances. On the ascent there are some I and II grade climbing passages. The view from the summit reaches as far as the Klostertal valley, Dalaas, the summit Rote Wand and the summits of the Lechquellgebirge. The descent is the same as the ascent.

  • Public transportation:

    Take the train to Langen am Arlberg or St. Anton am Arlberg station. From there, buses (no. 91 +92) run at regular intervals to Lech Zürs am Arlberg.

    Approach:

    From Germany: Take the A 96 to Bregenz from there on the A14 to Bludenz, continue on the S16 to the Lech Zürs am Arlberg exit. Follow the B197 to Alpe Rauz, turn left here onto the B198. Through the Flexengalerie and over the Flexenpass you reach Lech Zürs am Arlberg.

    From Switzerland: Via the A13 and the Feldkirch, Hohenems or Lustenau border crossing onto the A14 as far as Bludenz. Continue on the S16 until the exit Lech Zürs am Arlberg. Follow the B197 to Alpe Rauz, turn left here onto the B198. Through the Flexengalerie and over the Flexenpass you reach Lech Zürs am Arlberg.

    From Austria: Take the Inntal motorway A12 and then the S16 to the St. Anton am Arlberg exit (Arlbergpass). Follow the B197 first through St. Anton, then through St. Christoph and over the Arlberg Pass to Alpe Rauz. Turn right here onto the B198. Through the Flexengalerie and over the Flexenpass you reach Lech Zürs am Arlberg.
