Long Hike to Guarda (CH)

A high-alpine traverse from the Silvretta-Bielerhöhe, past the Wiesbadener Hütte and the Vermunt Pass, to Chamonna Tuoi, and through the Val Tuoi to the Engadine mountain village of Guarda.

From the Silvretta-Bielerhöhe, the trail takes you along Lake Silvretta through the Ochsental valley to the Wiesbadener Hut and then across challenging alpine terrain over the Vermunt Pass to the Swiss side, ending at Chamonna Tuoi. From the hut, the terrain becomes much gentler, and you’ll hike through the Val Tuoi, past the Alp Suot and along the Clozza, down to Guarda. The traverse between the Wiesbadener Hut and Chamonna Tuoi is a challenging alpine undertaking and not your typical mountain hike.

Due to its length and the challenges of alpine terrain, this tour is best suited as a two-day trip with an overnight stay at a mountain hut. You should reserve sleeping accommodations well in advance directly with the Wiesbadener Hütte or the Chamonna Tuoi, as these huts can be in high demand during the summer season. The Chamonna Tuoi offers online reservations.The contrast is what gives this traverse its special character: The rugged, high-alpine Silvretta range around the Vermunt Pass gives way to the Val Tuoi, an increasingly green mountain valley that eventually leads you all the way to Guarda.
