  • Höhenprofil

Hike from Schnepfau through the Weißenbachtal to the Weißenbachalpe with the beautiful view to the nearby Bregenz Forest. From the Sattelalpe you have a stunning 360° degree view. The trail continues through forests and across meadows. The last downhill part before you reach your final destination in Au is a bit steeper.

Up on the 1193 m high Weißenbachalpe you will be rewarded with a beautiful view of Mellau and Kanisfluh. Here you can take a rest and taste some milk, alpine butter and cheese as well as Sennsuppe (soup), which is available here after the cheese production. You can also visit the dairy. After crossing the Stoggersattel you reach the Satteleggalpe that also provides milk, alpine butter, cheese, Sennsuppe, Alpjause (snack) and drinks.

The hike to Mittagsfluh is worth your while due the breathtaking view. The track takes you on a narrow path to the Obere Sattelalpe and to the Mittagsfluh. The view from the so-called «Liegstein» to the Bregenzerache is tremendous. The name «Liegstein» derives from fact that you have to lie down to look into the depth. To get to Au, walk back again, past the Obere Sattelalpe and follow the trail over the Berngat to Au. Additional walking of approx. 45 minutes.

  • Directions

From the church in Schnepfau follow the side road towards Au and the signposts towards Weißenbachalpe. Past the quarry and along the Alpweg through the Weißenbachtal to the 1193 m high Weißenbachalpe. Continue to follow the valley to the Stoggersattel. Shortly before the Stoggersattel the path comes to an end. Follow the red/white markings on a narrow meadow path that occasionally can be a bit damp. After the mountain ridge you reach the gravel road of Schönenbach which you can follow towards Au and the Satteleggalpe. A broad path leads to the Obere Sattelalpe. Between Obere and Untere Sattelalpe a road branches off to the right and you can follow the signs. At the chapel in the Berngat area, follow the narrow, red-and-white marked path westwards directly to the church in Au. The bus (line 40) takes you back to the starting point in Schnepfau.
