Vorarlberger Architektur Institut (vai)

 Once the former nature display in the centre of Dornbirn was relocated to inatura in the City Garden, this attractive location was free to be repurposed for residential, business and cultural facilities.

The loft-like rooms on the first and second floor, some of which have no windows, are used as exhibition and office spaces. While the first floor is occupied by the vai – Vorarlberg Architecture Institute, the second floor is given over to the Flatz Museum. The ground floor contains an inn and a bookshop and forms part of the popular Dornbirn shopping street. On top of all this, the complex even features a number of flats. This conversion was a success thanks to the adoption of a contemporary building concept that nevertheless retains the historical character of the property.

Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Exhibition opening hours:

Tuesday to Friday 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday to 8 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., on public holidays the vai is closed.

During office hours we are happy to open the exhibition by appointment.
