Museum Frühmesshaus, Bartholomäberg

Altes Frühmesshaus Bartholomäberg
  • The “Early Mass House” in the community of Bartholomäberg has been home to a museum since 2009. For many centuries, a “Frühmesser” was the second priest in a community and had the special task of holding the early mass. One special feature of the Early Mass House on the Bartholomäberg is its location, with a unique panorama view over the valley below. The historic roots of the Montafon region’s settlement history can be found here, and for a long period of time Bartholomäberg was the valley’s chief community.

The museum presents the “raw condition” – the original state – of the house, which grew gradually, year by year. The superb architecture of the early Baroque building, along with masterpieces of Baroque furnishings, provide an impressive ambience for temporary exhibitions on both Montafon cultural history and the exciting historic background of the community of Bartholomämerg. Temporary special exhibitions present themes relating primarily to the local area, but also focus on topics of particular interest to other Montafon museums.
