Staying safe in open terrain and on the slopes:
Tips for Safe Freeriding!
Lech Zürs and Stuben am Arlberg have everything carvers, snowboarders and off-piste skiers could ever dream of, including guaranteed snow and 200km of high-alpine descents in deep powder.
“Nidla” in Gargellen, Montafon is the legendary deep powder run in Gargellen with an elevation loss of 500m. Facing the northwest, it is the longest and most rhythmic of its kind and widely considered the most beautiful.
The winter sports portal www.skiinfo.de has rated the Silvretta Montafon area Austria’s best ski area for freeriders and open-terrain skiing. There is a choice of selected ski routes, freeride routes for beginners and professionals, the freeride centre at Grasjoch, fouravalanche beacon checkpoints and guided tours for all levels are being operated at regular intervals.
Magnificent powder runs await freeriders at Sonnenkopf in Klostertal. In addition to demanding tours, freeriders with experience in open terrain may use the three-km long off-piste run down to Nenzigasttal.
Freeride at Sonnenkopf
Father Johann Müller from Warth was probably the first ski pioneer in Bregenzerwald. In the 1890s, he got himself skis sent from Sweden to get along easier and faster in the alpine terrain between the two parishes of Warth-Schröcken und Lech Zürs which he served. The 5-hour tour tracing the footsteps of Father Müller is accompanied by the ski guides of the Warth and Schröcken ski schools. Participants should have some practice riding in deep snow, safety gear is a must.
The best way to check the current snow conditions is via webcams and the latest snow report.
