First it goes through the forest, then mostly in the sun further to the Fellimännle with a unique view into the rear Silbertal valley with the side valley Gafluna. Embedded between forests, the path leads to an impressive waterfall and back to the starting point.
Silent moors and lakes, roaring mountain streams, extensive dwarf pine and larch forests, colorful alpine meadows under rugged rock giants – the Verwall is an impressive, protected mountain habitat. It is largely untouched, making it an extremely important refuge for rare and endangered life artists from the plant and animal world. In the Verwall the marginal Alps transition into the Central Alps, which is reflected in the rock formations and precipitation. Thus, on a small area, habitats are interlocked here that appear strictly separated elsewhere.
Silbertal hiking bus: The Silbertal hiking bus runs from mid-June to mid-September every Tuesday & Friday from the Silbertal fire station to the Lower Gaflunaalpe. Directions
Kristbergbahn mountain station – Kneipp facility Siebenbrünnele – Wildried – Lobsteg – Gretschersee – Fellimännle summit – Upper Gaflunaalpe – Lower Gaflunaalpe – return by hiking bus
The first altitude meters are covered by the Kristbergbahn. The hike starts at the mountain station of the Kristbergbahn and leads along the wide hiking trail downstream through the Kneipp facility Siebenbrünnele to the raised bog Wildried. With slight uphill and downhill you can easily warm up until you reach your pace. From Wildried it goes down to Lobsteg. There you cross the Burtschabach and on the other side of the valley you hike uphill. Keep direction Gretschalpe and the Fellimännle summit. The signpost shows 1 1/4 hours to Gretschalpe. From Gretschalpe you reach Gretschersee after another 30 minutes. You continue hiking on the path towards Gaflunaalpe. It goes further uphill. After another 30 minutes you reach the junction where it branches off to the summit. It is worth climbing the summit. The return is via the same way to the junction. The descent begins and you reach the Upper Gaflunaalpe, which invites to a stop. The traditional “Sura Kees” is a special delicacy produced in the high summer months on the alpine pastures in Montafon. After a refreshment you continue hiking downhill to the Lower Gaflunaalpe. It goes a little further downstream towards Silbertal. At the beginning of the forest area you reach the stop for the Silbertal hiking bus, which takes you back to the town center of Silbertal.
