  • Höhenprofil

The Biberkopf is one of the most striking peaks in the Lechtal and borders on the Allgäu. It is one of the most popular summit tours in the border triangle of Vorarlberg-Tyrol and Bavaria.

From Lechleiten in the Lech valley, the route leads uphill along a wide meadow path, past a striking hay barn and on to the Hundskopf hut. Below the Hundskopf, the ascent becomes steeper over serpentines. Quickly you come to a flatter spot, where the path branches off. On the right the way to the Biberkopf is marked. The left path also leads back to the path to the Biberkopf. The path changes quickly, it gets steeper and rockier. Partially the use of the hands is necessary. Now s begins also more fastidiously at the rock. At the back of the beaver’s head the ascent becomes more demanding. The marked path is secured with steel ropes. The last meters to the summit are steep and contain short climbing passages. The summit offers a wonderful panorama over the whole Lechtal, the view reaches up to the ski jump in Obersdorf and countless surrounding peaks like Widderstein, Geißhorn, Hohes Licht, Hochvogel.

  • Directions

From the car park near the climbing garden in Lechleiten, the marked hiking trail leads steeply uphill across meadows and fields on the south side. After about 45 minutes you will pass a newly renovated hay barn. The trail continues in a north-easterly direction under the Hundskopf. After a further 300 metres you reach a high plateau, from where the turnoff to the Mäuerleshütte leads to the right. The path to Biberkopf leads straight ahead over steep grass slopes and later in serpentines further towards the rock.
It becomes increasingly rockier and steeper. The rocky terrain demands easy climbing. Surefootedness and a head for heights are required on this tour. The south-western degree of the Biberkopf makes it even more challenging. The way leads partly secured with steel ropes below the summit on a grade along. The last ascent to the summit is once again challenging. Moderately difficult climbing passages on the rock lead to the summit.
In wet conditions this tour can become uncomfortable. On the meadows and the rocky passages it can quickly become slippery.
