    Beautiful round trip around the highest peak in Kleinwalsertal.

    Diese Tour führt durch die schöne Bergwelt des Kleinwalsertals rund um den Widderstein und auch auf den markanten Gipfel hinauf. Die Umrundung des Widdersteins ist eine ausgedehnte, mittelschwere Wanderung. Der Gipfelanstieg selbst erfolgt über einen alpinen Steig, erfordert Trittsicherheit und Schwindelfreiheit, kann aber auch weggelassen werden. Entlang der Tour laden viele gemütliche Hütten und Alpen zum Einkehren ein.

    Der Anstieg von oberhalb der Bärgunthochalpe auf den Gipfel des Widdersteins ist ein blau-weiß markierter, alpiner Steig - alpine Erfahrung, Trittsicherheit und Schwindelfreiheit ist erforderlich. Auf diesem Abschnitt besteht Steinschlaggefahr (vor allem, wenn viele Wanderer unterwegs sind), das Tragen eines Helms ist deshalb empfehlenswert.

    Cowherd Wolfgang Ott looks after the cattle on the Bärgunthigh alp in the Kleinwalsertal during the summer months. In good company: The twelve-year-old Magnus and Titus spend their summer holidays on the Bärgunt high alp at an altitude of almost 2,000 metres in the role of young cowherds. 

  • Directions

    Around the Widderstein. The tour around the "guardian" of the valley starts optionally in Baad or in reverse direction from Bödmen – in the following described from Baad. The tour starts with a moderate ascent to the Bärgunthütte and then leads to the Hochalppass. Further up the Bärgunthochalpe the path branches off to the summit of the Widderstein. Beware: head for heights and surefootedness is required for this trail section. Past the Widdersteinhütte a trail on rough rocks leads to the Obere Gemstelalpe. After the last descent a moderate path stretches through the Gemsteltal and later to the left back to Baad.

    Leave the car where it is!

    The Walserbus is a convenient way to reach your starting point. Line 1 takes you to the village Baad. For this tour you need to get off at the bus stop "Baad".

    Approach:

    Most routes from Germany lead to Ulm before carrying on along the A7. Take the Allgäu junction over a section of the A980 to the Waltenhofen junction, then take the 4- lane B19 via Sonthofen and Oberstdorf to Kleinwalsertal. From Austria (Vorarlberg) and Switzerland you reach the Kleinwalsertal via the Bregenzerwald (Hittisau) – Riedbergpass – Fischen – Oberstdorf. From Tyrol the fastest route is over the A7 to Kempten carrying on along the B19 direction Oberstdorf. A motorway vignette is not required to reach the valley.
