EuroVelo 15
Boundless cycling along the Rhine
Starting summer 2025, the international EuroVelo 15 long-distance cycle route – the Rhine Cycle Route – will run through Vorarlberg for the first time. The new cycling route along the Rhine adds approximately 35 kilometers to the existing EuroVelo network on the Austrian side – from Feldkirch to Höchst.
Cycling along the Rhine: Experience Landscape, Culture and Nature
The route begins at the picturesque Lake Egelsee on the border with Liechtenstein. From there, the path leads past the historic old town of Feldkirch, through alluvial forests along the Ill River to the Illspitz, where the Ill flows into the Alpine Rhine. Along the Rhine, panoramic views open up across the Rhine Valley and the surrounding mountain landscape. The route then crosses the Rhine at Lustenau and reconnects with the existing EuroVelo 15 route at Höchst.
Travel in comfort and safety
The new route is predominantly paved, barrier-free, and marked throughout with EuroVelo signs. It is suitable for both e-bikes and conventional bicycles such as trekking bikes or gravel bikes, making it perfect for day trips or leisure excursions. Connections to public transport and numerous dining and rest stops along the route facilitate easy planning.
Part of the European Cycling Network
EuroVelo 15 connects the Rhine’s source in Andermatt (Switzerland) with the North Sea in the Netherlands, spanning over 1,500 kilometers. With the new section through Vorarlberg and Liechtenstein, the route now passes through six European countries. The extension enhances cross-border mobility and creates new opportunities for sustainable cycling tourism in the Rhine Valley.
