Vorarlberg
Spring sunshine & blossom bliss
Date: 19 February 2026
Spring has arrived between Lake Constance and the mountainous regions of Vorarlberg. The skis have been stowed away. Now the hiking boots and bikes are back in action. The blossoming nature is a delight and the cultural stages are also bustling with life.
Where butterflies flutter
Spring is the right time to be enchanted by the wonders of nature. Walks through blossoming landscapes are rich in sensory impressions. Where is it most beautiful? Vorarlberg Tourismus has selected 12 special spring hiking tips. These include trails along Lake Constance and rivers, through species-rich moors and to natural features. The range extends from the lagoon hike on Lake Constance to the spring tufa trail in the Bregenzerwald and the moorland hike on the Hörnlepass in Kleinwalsertal.
Hiking around Vorarlberg
Hiking around Vorarlberg and getting to know the region in all its facets? Then “Min Weag” (My Way) is the best choice. The tour leads through the most beautiful landscapes in 31 stages – from Lake Constance through the Rhine valley, over the hilly landscapes of the front Bregenzerwald up into the high mountains of Arlberg, Silvretta and Rätikon. Hikers can get an overview of the stages online. The printed hiking guide “Min Weag” is also practical. It contains route descriptions, distance and elevation profiles, texts on history, geology and the living culture.
Cycling through the blooming countryside
On the mountain, the last snowfields glisten in the sun, while flowering meadows delight along the paths in the valley. The pleasant spring temperatures encourage you to explore Vorarlberg by bike. The flat routes along rivers such as the Ill and the Rhine are perfect for leisure cyclists. Cyclists travel from Egg to Doren through the picturesque scenery along the Bregenzerache. Beautiful views open up on the “Around the Pfänder” tour. However, there are some climbs to master on this excursion, which starts at Lake Constance. Fitness is also required for the mountain bike tour up the Muttersberg. The 1,401-metre-high mountain is known as the “sun balcony of Bludenz”.
Floating up mountains
How different the world looks from above. There are many opportunities to comfortably reach scenic peaks in Vorarlberg. The Pfänderbahn near Bregenz, the Karrenseilbahn near Dornbirn and the cable car in Bezau are open almost all year round. All other summer mountain railways operate from May/June. Vorarlberg Tourismus provides information about the cable cars on the website.
Watch and listen
The cultural stages welcome spring with music and dance.
- From March to May, Bregenzer Frühling presents contemporary dance. Internationally renowned dance companies are guests each time. The series concludes in June with modern theatre.
- Song and classical music determine the programme of the Schubertiade, which takes place from April/May in Hohenems and from June in the Bregenzerwald.
- At the beginning of May, the city of Hohenems invites visitors to the cultural festival “Emsiana”. The programme combines music, art, history and architecture, literature and performance.
Travel across the water
The ships of the Lake Constance fleet set off on their excursions from the modern harbour in Bregenz. The ships of “Vorarlberg Lines” as well as the German Lake Constance shipping company call at all the important ports between Bregenz and Constance until October: the enchanting island town of Lindau, Friedrichshafen with the Zeppelin Museum and the Dornier Museum, the wine town of Meersburg and the flower island of Mainau. The programme also includes round trips in Bregenz Bay, three-country panoramic cruises as well as a variety of entertaining and festive special trips. Those who appreciate nostalgic flair can take a trip on the paddle steamer “Hohentwiel” or the “Motor Ship Oesterreich”.
Compete and run
For more than 50 years, the annual Hypo-Mehrkampfmeeting has been inspiring audiences. The event, where the world’s athletics elite are guests in Vorarlberg, takes place on 30 and 31 May 2026 in Götzis.
“Without women, nothing runs” is the motto of the “Lake Constance Women’s Run” on 13 June 2026. There is a choice between a five and a ten kilometre route. Both run directly along the Lake Constance shore.
