  • Höhenprofil

The Rote Wand is the second highest peak in the Lechquellgebirge and, thanks to its striking shape, is easily recognisable even from a distance.

From Alpe Formarin in the Zugertal, the day tour stagnates along the signposted path towards Lake Formarinsee. From the wide gravel road, a path leads to the right in the direction of Lange Furka. Here you can decide whether to take the longer or shorter ascent path. Continue straight ahead through the Lange Furka towards Laguzalpe. The path leads evenly uphill and after about an hour you reach the narrowness. Here you can turn off to Faludrigaalpe. Straight ahead and then downhill you soon reach the Obere Laguzalpe. Keep right at the turn-off and continue uphill in serpentines. The terrain becomes increasingly steeper and more challenging. Some parts are secured with steel ropes and some climbing passages up to the summit have to be mastered. The summit view over the whole Lechquellengebirge is breathtaking and promises a wonderful view in good weather. Return first over the same trail, from the last turn-off through the Rote Furka to the Lake Formarinsee.

A stop at the Alpe Formarin or the hut Freiburger is worthwhile after the hike!

  • Directions

From Alpe Formarin in the Zugertal, the day tour continues along the signposted path towards Lake Formarinsee. From the wide gravel road, a path leads to the right towards Lange Furka. Here you can decide whether to take the longer or shorter ascent path. The shorter path leads over the Rote Furka, steeply ascending to the Scharte above the Klesenzaalpe. Here you have a wonderful view of the Great Walser Valley. We choose the longer path straight ahead through the Lange Furka towards Laguzalpe. The path leads evenly uphill and after about an hour you reach the narrowness. Here you can turn off to the Faludrigaalpe. Straight ahead and then downhill you soon reach the Obere Laguzalpe. Keep right at the turn-off and continue uphill in serpentines. The path first crosses a steep meadow, later it becomes increasingly steep and bumpy. The terrain becomes increasingly steeper and more challenging. Some places are secured with steel ropes, the path is very exposed. A head for heights and sure-footedness are absolutely necessary. After about an hour you reach a turn-off, we take the left path towards the summit. Now it goes over crisply demanding rock passage which is secured with steel ropes to a saddle. Continue along the rock face to the northwestern degree. From here you always walk along the Grad up to the summit. The last 500 metres before the summit can be described as a decisive key point. It contains difficult climbing passages and up to the summit some challenging sections have to be mastered. The summit view over the whole Lechquellen mountains is breathtaking and promises a wonderful view in good weather. Return first over the same trail, descend from the last turnoff through the Rote Furka to Lake Formarinsee. From here the gravel road continues to the hut Freiburger, where you can stop for a bite to eat. Over the narrow path below the hut Freiburger, above the Lake Formarinsee on the other side of the shore, you return to the Formarin Alpe.
