The tour is not particularly difficult until shortly before the summit. The summit itself is only difficult to reach on rock. From the summit, you have a fantastic view of the opposite mountain world, the Tilisunahütte, Weißplatte, Sulzfluh, and Drei Türme.

    Accessibility of the summit:

The ski tour to the summit of the Tschaggunser Mittagspitze is only recommended under very safe conditions and for sure-footedness.

Ski touring is endurance sport. The valuable strain on the heart and circulation requires health and good self-assessment. Avoid time pressure and increase the intensity and duration of your tours slowly. Pay attention to reserves of strength for the descent. Fluids, energy, and breaks are necessary to maintain performance and concentration. Hot, isotonic drinks are ideal thirst quenchers and heat providers. Muesli bars, dried fruit, and biscuits satisfy small hunger on the way. The ski tour to the Mittagspitze is a very demanding route. It requires that you are physically fit and completely free of dizziness. Good skiing skills are a prerequisite for the descent. TIP: It is recommended to do the ski tour with Montafon mountain guides. The "professionals" will lead you into the wonderfully beautiful mountain world of Montafon. More information at www.montafon.bergfuehrer.at or www.montafon-guides.at. Individual tours are also offered.

  • Directions

The ascent starts from the parking lot near the fire station in Latschau and passes the permanent avalanche transceiver search field in Latschau towards Gauertal/Lindauer Hut. In the first forest section at the bridge over the creek, keep left on the main path that leads steeply upwards. After just under half an hour, you reach the open plains of Vollspora. Now head left towards the south via the winter hiking trail to Grabs. Once in Grabs, the ascent track runs in the area of the former ski slope up to Hochegga and then continues along the forest road to Alpilaalpe. On the backside of Alpilaalpe, turn left towards a ridge and continue uphill. From here, it’s about 400 vertical meters to the Mittagsspitze saddle. Here, there is a ski depot. You reach the summit via easy and partly exposed climbing along the west ridge. The onward path to the summit is only recommended for very sure-footed mountaineers/ski tourers.

    Descents:

    • One option is to follow the ascent route also for the descent.
    • Another option is to descend below Alpilaalpe along the summer hiking trail through the forest towards Gauertal.
    • Note: The layout of ascent and descent tracks must be individually assessed and evaluated depending on snow, weather, and avalanche conditions.
