Ski tour Kromerscharte (2,800 m)
-
Höhenprofil
Fantastic views in and out to the world of the 3,000-meter peaks of the Silvretta-Bielerhöhe!
The Kromertal with the distinctive Kromerscharte offers mostly ideal touring conditions due to the north slope and is at the same time a popular destination in this area. Because the route is mostly in the shade, the snow often remains loose and good to ski longer. Under good conditions, you can ascend up to the notch. The highlight of the tour is the passage through a rock window to the Swiss side.
The professionals of the Montafon mountain guides recommend solid basic training, avalanche and risk management. We recommend you join the guided ski tours with our Montafon mountain guides. You can find the program for the tours at www.montafon.at/skitouren

Directions
At the exit point of the tunnel bus at Vermuntsee, the route first leads to the Kromerbach. Then the ascent goes southwest up the Kromertal towards the almost always visible Saarbrücker Hütte. At about 2,000 m the valley splits. You stay in the valley bottom to reach the Kromerscharte. The valley floor passes west of the Kleiner Litzner. Shortly afterwards the valley begins to rise, so you stay more on the eastern side of the slope and thus reach the area of the Kromer Glacier. The tour destination is the deep notch in the ridge between the eastern and western Kromerspitze. The ascent directly to the notch is very steep and only recommended under good conditions.
Descent same as ascent.
Variants only in safe conditions
- Eastern Kromerspitze, 2,865 m (4 1/4 hrs, 1,120 m ascent, difficult)
The eastern Kromerspitze is only accessible on foot by a demanding climb over the ridge. - Western Kromerspitze, 2,867 m (4 1/2 hrs, 1,120 m ascent, moderate)
You reach the western Kromerspitze via a short steep slope onto the Schweizergletscher. You cross it towards the Schweizerlücke (2,745 m) and shortly before the notch continue left from the west towards the summit. The last meters are usually only possible without skis.
Descent over the Schweizergletscher:
From the western Kromerspitze or the Schweizerlücke you can ski down via the Schweizergletscher. Below 2,600 m you can change eastward through a steep gully to the Kromerhang or ski further north and then descend steeply below the Valgragg towers into the Kromertal (pay close attention to sun exposure and avalanche danger!)
