Montafon Verwallrunde | New Heilbronner Hut to Gaschurn

An idyllic high mountain route through the European protected area Verwall. From the New Heilbronner Hut, it goes over the Wiegensee to Gaschurn.

The Natura 2000 area “Verwall” is with approx. 120 km² the largest protected area of Vorarlberg. Transition is the characteristic of the Verwall. For here you find the transition from the Randalpen to the Central Alps. This concerns both the rocks in the subsoil and the precipitation. In a small space, plants and habitats are interlocked that can be found strictly separated elsewhere.

Encased by the Klostertal, the Ill and the Tyrolean state border, the European protected area encloses a unique alpine habitat from the valley floor of the Litz to the two-thousanders of the Verwall group. Here you find the largest larch-pine forests of Vorarlberg as well as numerous moors, lakes, extensive mountain pine, alder and alpine rose bushes, colorful alpine meadows as well as rugged rock habitats. The remoteness and silence of the area allow a variety of endangered bird species and other wildlife to find undisturbed retreat areas here.

At Verbellaalpe, you can strengthen yourself with a hearty snack platter.
