  • Höhenprofil

Intermediate via ferrata in the rocky north face of the Madrisella that leads you over 750 meters of climbing and 450 meters in elevation to the scenic summit.

A pleasure via ferrata as it is written in the book: The Madrisella via ferrata offers advanced climbers a varied climbing experience with magnificent views. Long, steep sections alternate with traverses and ridge passages. The well-structured rock of the Madrisella north face is ideal for stepping on natural footholds. The highlight is a roughly 150-meter-long, almost vertical wall at difficulty level C/D, which requires stamina and a good head for heights. Several rest opportunities on the way to the summit offer you chances for scenic breaks.

Approach: Starting from the Versettla Bahn mountain station, the path leads you past Nova Stoba, down to Alpe Nova, and along the road into the Nova Valley until you reach Seressee after about an hour. A signpost on the rock marks the further approach to the Madrisella via ferrata. It is best to put on your harness and helmet now to avoid the risk of falling rocks at the start. Then, following the cairns, you reach the start at the foot of the rock wall after about 20 minutes.

Descent: Directly at the summit cross, the descent begins via the marked hiking trail over the Versettla and past the castle down to the Versettla Bahn mountain station.

The via ferrata has been made safer at tricky sections with countless brackets. An early start is recommended, as the entire circuit including the return trip takes quite some time. The well-deserved Kaiserschmarren at Nova Stoba should still be possible.

  • Directions

Your circular route starts at the Versettla Bahn mountain station. The path leads past the Nova Stoba, down to Alpe Nova, and further into the Nova Valley. After about an hour, when you arrive at Seressee, you will already see the signpost to the Madrisella via ferrata on the rock. It is best to put on your climbing harness and helmet now to avoid the danger of falling rocks at the start. Now turn left and follow the cairns up the approximately 15 to 20 minute ascent to the start.

To warm up, there is almost a vertical wall where stability and arm strength are already required. After a short break, you climb the next wall until a highlight of the via ferrata appears – a bench right in the middle of the rock where you can rest comfortably and enjoy the view. Take advantage of this break because after a short descent, the most challenging part follows – the 150-meter-high vertical wall. With several meters of air under your feet, you go up this wall. Follow the short ridge and proceed to the last wall of the via ferrata. After the last strenuous section, a traverse and the last almost vertical meters lead up to the exit. After about 2.5 to 3 hours, the Madrisella via ferrata is completed.

Already at the exit, you will be rewarded with a beautiful view. But after another five minutes’ walk, you reach the summit of the 2,466-meter-high Madrisellaspitze and enjoy a magnificent panoramic view. Additionally, you get a proud view down onto the route of the via ferrata. Then the descent follows down to the Versettla Bahn mountain station or to the Nova Stoba, which you reach after about 1.5 hours.
