At the foot of the majestic Zimba lies the community of Vandans. Here, traditional buildings such as centuries-old Montafon houses stand opposite modern architectural structures, creating a unique villagescape. The traditional Montafon house consists of a whitewashed stone part and a dark wooden part, though this is far from the only special feature. The Montafon building culture is reflected here in many different aspects of village life.

  • Directions

Starting in the town center at the “old” and “new” church of Vandans, the path leads downhill to the Mustergilbach. After crossing it, follow the dam crown on the left hand side to Valkastielstraße, where you turn left.

After a few meters, you pass the dam sluices of the Mustergielbach, which were built at the beginning of the 20th century to protect Vandans from landslides and floods. Here is also the forest playground “Gemsle”, a nice playground that was renovated in 2019 and equipped with many great play devices. The forest provides shade in the summer for relaxed enjoyment.

Along a small footpath, you descend a few meters again towards the town center. At the kindergarten of the community of Vandans, the adjacent playground invites you to rest and play. The path now goes uphill a few meters again to the “Mangahüsli”, a particularly beautiful and richly decorated Montafon house, and on to the dam crown of the Rellsbach. The Rellsbach is one of the four wild streams that surround the town. Over a short meadow path, you come directly into the district of Innerbach. Passing the historic Montafon krauthobelfabrik and the valley station of the Golmerbahn, arriving at Am Illweg, you go the last meters downhill back to the town center. The cycling and walking path along the Ill invites you to stroll.
