    This trip is particularly rewarding in spring because that’s the time that the Unterried presents itself as a bright blue sea of blossoms with millions of flowering irises. It’s a place in summer to cool down and enjoy a swim in the ‘Alte Rüttenen’ quarry lakes at the end of the trip. The Illspitz, where the River Ill flows into the River Rhine, is impressive at any time of the year.

    Turn left at the fork in the road into the Alter Unterriedweg and follow the path to Bangs.

    Cross the Rheinstraße at Gasthof Stern in Bangs and follow the cycle path on the right to the Zollamt Bangs (Customs Office).

    Zollamt Bangs: turn left just before the Rhine bridge and on to the cycle path along the Rhine.

    Turn left over the Illsteg, then immediately right and follow the Illdammweg upstream.Turn left onto the downhill path.

    Crossroads: follow the path to the right towards Paspels, Baggerseen (Quarry Lakes).

    Where three paths met (with tree in the middle): turn right and always follow the red and white cycle path signs.

    Baggerseen Alte Rüttenen: great places for a cool swim.

    Follow the cycle path signs on the right.Left back to the starting point.
