Arlberg winter via ferrata
-
Höhenprofil
An absolutely unique experience on the Arlberg: the ascent of the Arlberg winter via ferrata, which leads from the Riffelbahn II mountain station to the Rossfallscharte.
It is probably quite a unique feeling to climb a via ferrata in winter. With skis / snowboard on your back, you mostly go over snowfields and ridges, but again and again you have to climb with ski boots on the rock / overcome steep rock passages. On this tour you will be rewarded with magnificent views of the Kuchenspitze, the Scheibler and the Malfontal with the beautiful mountains Hoher Riffler and Hohe Spitze. During the whole via ferrata you are secured at the steel rope, in case of a lot of snow the rope is snow-covered in a few places and has to be excavated. Usually there is a good stapfspur, after heavy snowfalls the first climbers have a lot of work to do on the ridges.
The descent into the beautiful Malfontal valley is an absolute highlight and pure pleasure after climbing the via ferrata.

Directions
First we go from Lech Zürs am Arlberg on skis to St. Anton and then over to Rendl. From here you take the lifts to the top station of the Riffelbahn II, where the via ferrata starts. Right at the beginning the route is steep and quite rocky. If you feel insecure here, it is better to turn around, as the biggest difficulties are yet to come. After the first steep passage you continue on ridges up to the Vorderen Rendlspitze, the highest point of the via ferrata. Then it goes on to the Rossfallscharte, where the via ferrata ends. From here it goes in the free area down into the Malfontal and up to Pettneu am Arlberg. Here a bus goes back to St. Anton am Arlberg at regular intervals. On skis we return to Lech Zürs am Arlberg.
