Great eats at lofty heights

The Frööd mountain restaurant

Modern architecture you can truly savour has long since arrived in Vorarlberg's mountains.

Vorarlberg’s mountains feature a number of stylish mountain restaurants exhibiting contemporary Vorarlberg timber architecture. The Frööd mountain restaurant above Brand/Bürserberg is a prime example. In local dialect, Frööd means “joy” and a visit to this hospitable establishment is both a culinary and visual pleasure.

Savour the views

The Frööd mountain restaurant is situated at 1,680 metres above sea level on the Burtschasattel ridge, just a few steps away from the mountain station of the Panoramabahn cable car. From the large terrace and the interior, enjoy stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Key concepts such as regionalism and sustainability play an important role here. Wherever possible, the kitchen uses locally sourced ingredients. The energy concept is also ingenious: “Frööd” is energy neutral. A solar system and the wood stove provide the required energy. The timber building was planned by Vorarlberg architectural firm Rainer and Amann.

Stay and discover

Frööd is a popular place for an enjoyable break, both in summer and in winter. From here you can set off on hikes, mountain bike tours or hit the slopes in winter. Alternatively, Frööd is an ideal place to fortify yourself after an eventful day. It’s also practical for families: the Frööd mountain restaurant is the starting point for the interactive “Natursprünge” trail. In winter, the ski slopes and toboggan runs are directly next to the restaurant.

Culinary events take place throughout the year. In summer, there is a mountain breakfast on Sundays and BBQs take place on several evenings during the week. In winter, guests are treated to delicious evening menus on certain dates.

Brand is accessible via bus from Bludenz (train station).
