Do you fancy food and delicacies that taste really good and are produced with care by family farms? Then you’ve come to the right place. We have put together some recommended addresses for direct shopping in farm shops. There you will find small-scale specialties to enjoy on holiday or as a souvenir to take home.

The selected farms are members of the “Vom Ländle Bur” association, the association of Vorarlberg agricultural direct marketers, or certified organic farms. The “Vom Ländle Bur” member farms adhere to the “Gutes vom Bauernhof” quality guidelines. Compliance is checked by an independent inspection body. All farm shops have fixed opening hours and offer personal advice as well as their own fresh and processed long-life products and specialities. 01 Winderhof, Dornbirn

“Winder Beeren” has long been a household name in Vorarlberg. In recent years, the range of products offered by this innovative farm has constantly expanded. The new name “Winderhof” stands for high-quality products – fresh from the field and homemade from the berry kitchen.

02 Gstach, Rankweil

The Gstach family’s farm and visitor centre in Rankweil-Brederis is THE address for lovers of high-quality pork. The farm shop sells fresh and carefully processed meat from the farm’s own breeding. The animals are slaughtered on site in the farm’s own butchery. Farm products from other producers in Vorarlberg complement the extensive product range.

03 Biokäserei Hilkater, Bizau

Since 1996, the Meusburger-Flatz family has been producing 11 varieties of semi-hard and hard cheeses from silo-free raw milk in their own organic farm dairy above Bizau. The cheeses are aged in their own cheese cellar until they reach perfect maturity. The Hilkater organic cheese dairy has already won numerous awards for its cheese specialties. In 2021, the full-time organic farm received the Vorarlberg Animal Welfare Award. The cheese and other homemade specialties and gift ideas are available in the farm shop.

04 Lisilis Biohof, Meiningen

“Organic with body and soul” – that is Lisilis Biohof run by the Kühne family in Meiningen in Vorarlberg’s Rheintal valley near the Swiss border. The family cultivates an impressive variety of vegetables using organic farming methods. However, it is not just vegetable lovers who will find what they are looking for in the farm shop. 05 Dietrich Kostbarkeiten, Lauterach

Richard Dietrich’s farm shop in Lauterach, a neighbouring municipality of Bregenz, offers specialities for conscious connoisseurs. The agricultural economist, who holds a doctorate, is passionate about growing a wide variety of fruit and old Vorarlberg Riebelmais varieties, which he cultivates together with other farmers. Whether whisky, gin, tortilla chips or elderberry mash – it is always surprising what can be produced from tried and tested raw materials.

06 Blaha-Hof, Höchst

The whole family works on the Blaha farm. Edmund Humpeler and his son-in-law Jens take care of the farming and meat processing in their own farm butchery. The ladies of the house offer the house specialities and products from regional partners in the farm shop. In addition to meat and sausage products, they also offer jams, liqueurs, fine spirits and gift items.

07 Naturprodukte Flatz, Hard

Since 1988, Judith and Klaus Flatz have been running the Jenny-Hof farm in Hard on Lake Constance as the second generation. Their modern farm shop is an excellent destination for conscious consumers. The range of high-quality products produced by the family and partners extends from meat and dairy products, cereals, fine spirits and wines to vegetables and fruit. 08 Biohof Lingenhel, Doren

The Lingenhel family runs one of Vorarlberg’s most diverse organic farms in the small municipality of Doren in the Bregenzerwald. The multi-award-winning innovative family business sells high-quality home-produced food and refined delicacies (e.g. juices, liqueurs, spreads, chutneys …) as well as selected products from partner farms in the farm shop. Cooking and baking courses are also held in a modern farm kitchen with seminar room. In October 2019, Karl Lingenhel was honoured as “Organic Farmer of the Year” at the high-profile CERES Award in Berlin.

09 Die kleine Farm, Langen am Arlberg

Attention pasta fans! If you’re travelling in the Klostertal/Arlberg area, you should make a stop at the farm shop of “Die kleine Farm” in Langen am Arlberg. The Battisti-Jochum family not only breeds chickens and Shropshire sheep, but also quail. Various types of pasta are made from quail eggs and durum wheat semolina, ancient grains or spelt. Also available in the farm shop is the flavoursome Klostertaler mountain honey from the Braz beekeeping association from the Natura 2000 area “Klostertaler Bergwälder”. In 2019, “Die kleine Farm” was awarded the Vorarlberg Agricultural Future Prize.

10 Margits Hofladen, Au

Eggs, sausage and bacon products, dairy products, spirits, wine, syrup, jam, lard,… are available from the Muxel family’s small farm shop in Au in the Bregenzerwald. Ham, bacon and sausage products come from animals reared on their own farm. They are slaughtered by master butcher Oswald Baurenhas and processed with great care into delicious specialities. Also available: alpine cheese and alpine butter from their own small alpine pasture Obere Älpele.

11 Metzler Naturhautnah, Egg

Delicacies from the farm’s own dairy, high-quality cosmetic whey care products, a goat madhouse, herb garden and a small animal cuddle zone – the Metzler family has created a very special place in Egg in the Bregenzerwald with “Metzler Naturhautnah”. The beekeeping and distillery offers a wide range of products in a 160 square metre sales room: honey, fine spirits, liqueurs, chocolates, gift sets under the “Gsiberger” label, other food and gourmet products as well as bee products. 13 Xond Hofladen und Sennerei, Riezlern

In the Fritz family’s farm shop in Riezlern in Kleinwalsertal, you can buy high-quality dairy products from their own cows and goats from their own farm dairy as well as cheese specialities from other regions in Vorarlberg. Meat, ham and sausages are also available from the organic farm with goats and cattle. Preserved foods and delicacies complete the product range.

14 Vetterhof Lustenau

The Vetterhof is one of the pioneers of organic farming in western Austria. In addition to freshly harvested vegetables, the farm store also sells refined products such as pickled tomatoes, herbal salt, vinegar, honey, mustard and much more from its own production or from partner farms. A vodka made from the farm’s own early potatoes and – brand new – a gin with the finest juniper from the Alps and ginger from the farm’s own cultivation are recommended as souvenirs.

15 Sunnahof Tufers, Göfis

Sunnahof (Sonnenhof) Tufers in Göfis combines agriculture, gardening, carpentry, farm catering, a play area for children and a farm shop. The farm shop of the social enterprise with employment opportunities for people with disabilities sells freshly harvested produce from the fields and garden, meat, vinegars, juices and schnapps from the farm’s own organic production, as well as wooden products and gifts. Events (brunch, festivals) are also held regularly at Sunnahof.

16 Sennhof Lädele, Rankweil

Fleckerl, ribbon noodles, Hörnle or would you prefer macaroni? The Sennhof Lädele in Rankweil is another farm shop tip for pasta fans. Eggs, juices, schnapps, flour, honey, creams and much more complement the impressive range of homemade pasta. The Sennhof was awarded the Vorarlberg Animal Welfare Prize in 2018 for exemplary achievements.
