Warth | Large Karhorn circuit

This loop is particularly notable for its gentle, steady climb and consistently easy walking conditions. It begins at the village square in Warth and continues along the “Lechweg” below the Warther Hof Wellness Hotel. After crossing the Krumbach, the trail turns left onto the “Rauhgehrenweg.” A short stretch along the main road takes you to the valley station of the Jägeralp-Express, from where the route continues to the Hotel Adler.

There, the ascent to the Simmel begins, marked by the striking Peace Cross. From the Simmel Chapel, a trail leads down to the Salober parking lot. You’ll then walk a short distance along the main road to Lake Kalbele, from where the hiking trail continues to the idyllically situated Lake Körber.

Behind the Körbersee, a wide farm road runs through the Auenfeld, which you follow. Passing the Sonnen-Jet valley station, you’ll reach the Untere Auenfeldalpe, from where you continue straight ahead to the Auenfeldsattel. Here, the trail branches off to the left onto an uphill path (please stay on the upper path; do not descend toward Bürstegg).

The trail becomes slightly steeper here and leads along the base of the Karhorn to the Wartherhornsattel.

Tip for summit enthusiasts: With a short additional climb of about 60 meters in elevation, you’ll reach the summit of the Wartherhorn, which rewards you with an impressive panorama and sweeping views over Warth.

From the Wartherhorn Saddle, the trail leads down to the Wartherhorn-Express mountain station and continues on to the Spitziger Stein with its reservoir.

Tip for the descent: Alternatively, you can use the Steffisalp-Express to assist with the descent. To do so, turn right and follow the trail to the mountain station of the Steffisalp-Express.

Otherwise, turn left and walk down the popular “Luchere” ski run, through the Wolfegg parcel and across the Hämmabach stream. Once you reach the farm road just above the main road, continue following the farm road uphill. Continue until you pass a fork in the trail. There, turn right. Pass the Huber Alpe until you reach another fork. There, turn left, back toward the village square in Warth.
