  • Höhenprofil

A hike into the past: across the Ur-Ill’s gorge created at the edges of the ice and the Fallenkobelweg to the Örflaschlucht (gorge). Back up to Rütte to return along the Lusbühlweg to the starting point, the Kobel.

Experience the power of water and the formation of landscapes during the ice ages. A short ascent right at the beginning takes the route through the glacial gorge of the Ill and along the interesting Fallenkobelweg. It then ascends from the upper Götznerberg car park to Meschatle. This where it’s possible to marvel at the Kolk, scour holes in the small gorge, which were ground out by the waters at the edges of the ice during the ice ages, as was the Örflaschlucht (gorge) because the scant amounts of water originating from the Emmebach wouldn’t have been sufficient to do so.

Most of the route leads through cool forests and gorges, which therefore makes it particularly good for hot summer days.

The route can be easily varied or extended at any time. Booking a hiking guide will open up many more options, just contact us at guideservice@aon.at.

  • Directions

The route starts at the car park and continues on the Römerweg and along the edge of the forest towards Hohenems until the Fallenkobelweg branches off to the right and leads along a steep beautiful path through the Ur-Ill gorge to the upper Götznerberg car park. The path here is level and leads into the forest to Dreiangel from where it ascends to the left on the Meschacher Kirchweg to the Meschatle (630m). The descent is then via the Meschatleweg down to the Emmebach stream, across the bridge and a small hump into the Örflaschlucht gorge (532m). It then follows the gorge out to the Immaculata Quelle (spring) and then the signpost for Götznerberg. The path turns left at the playing field for ball games up to the Fahrstraße, then shortly after to the left and immediately right again at the bus stop towards Kobel Chapel; it then descends after passing the last houses down the Lusbühlweg to the Kobel. A right turn immediately at the roundabout leads back to the starting point.
