Having changed hands over the generations, the erstwhile “Zur Wälderbahn” inn has now been fully renovated. The results are well worth admiring in person.
When it comes to outstanding architects, Vorarlberg is spoilt by an embarrassment of riches.
The magnificent Hotel Schwärzler profits from its close proximity to nature, cosmopolitan hospitality and strong regional connection. Selecting an architect from Vorarlberg was therefore a clear priority. Christian Matt, a regular guest of the hotel and someone who knows the building inside and out, was deemed the ideal choice considering his intimate knowledge of guest needs.
Renovations began in 2005. With noteworthy simplicity and elegance, the architects at DornerMatt reimagined the rooms’ furniture, furnishings and balcony balustrades in 2013/14. Twenty-five new “Superior” rooms of highest quality were the result. The “Babenwohl” restaurant also received a facelift in 2017 and this year an all-new wing with 47 premium, deluxe rooms and junior suites was added.
Situated between Gebhardsberg, the Bregenzer Ache river and Lake Constance, the Hotel Schwärzler skilfully plays host to contrasting elements: culture & nature, history & the contemporary, business & leisure, rural & urban. Such supposed opposites are precisely why the Hotel Schwärzler is such an inspiring and vibrant place. Here, locals and guests from all over the world meet and enjoy Vorarlberg-style hospitality at its finest.
