Walch's Rote Wand Gourmet Hotel

Switch off. Arrive. Recuperate.

The first time you arrive in the district of Zug, you may ask yourself “Where in the world is the Gourmet Hotel?”. After all, at first glance, only the old tavern is immediately identifiable as part of the hotel. Once inside the tavern, however, the true dimensions of the old establishment become clear. The houses of the Gourmet Hotel Rote Wand are actually connected underground by the so-called “red passage.”

The resort in Zug first originated as an old Walser-style inn located near the church. It belonged to the handful of establishments that existed in the hamlet until the last third of 20th century. Its current size is the result of the ski-industry boom that led to the construction of hotels and guesthouses in the hamlet of Zug. The expansion of the Hotel Rote Wand to include numerous buildings is part of this expansion. Today, six houses are united under the umbrella of the Gourmet Hotel. Two restaurants complement the four hotels and apartments, as well as the close-by spa and golf course. In the summer of 2015, the historical school and Alpine dairy building was lovingly restored and reopened to become the culinary meeting point of two types of gastronomy services (the snack parlour and the culinary club with Chef’s Table). The Dietrich Untertrifaller architectural firm has been responsible for renovation and expansion since 2007.
