During the ascent with the Steffisalp Express you can enjoy the magnificent mountain scenery. If you prefer to walk uphill, cross the Steffisalp cable car and follow the serpentines. At the end of the forest the small Wannensee rewards and invites you to a rest. From the idyllically located lake it is only a short distance to the right to a next path, which is now followed to the left gently but steadily ascending. After passing a city, a view opens up on the Lech, which flows deep into the valley. A few wooden planks are used to hike along the now widening path, which is crossed by narrow streams, to the walser settlement of Bürstegg. The short detour for a rest in this magnificent place is a must. Back on the way, you branch off after approx. 400 m turn right and climb up the path towards Auenfeldsattel. With reaching a small crest, the path goes on to a wider path. The hike continues with a gentle descent at the foot of the Karhorn. The landscape fascinates by its meadows, rocks and the heath, numerous benches invite you to extensive rest. After about a kilometer you pass the Auenfeldalpe, where you follow the path to the left towards Körbersee. The dirt road follows the young Bregenzerache, a stream that rises in the Auenfeld, over a length of 1,5 km. Then the path makes a 90° curve and a few steps later you climb up the path to the right. The rocky, rustic path leads to the romantically situated Körbersee with the mountain hotel of the same name. Passing the terrace of the hotel, the gravel road is followed uphill. Then the route makes a turn to the left and leads as a path over a meadow to meet after a few hundred meters again on the gravel road. The path that branches off to the right only a few steps further is ignored and it does not take long, then the Kalbelesee and so the Hochtannbergpass is reached. Next to the road you walk past the Körbalpe and the parking lot Salober and has soon reached the Alte Salzstraße with an unpaved path. At some distance, the Hotel Adler at the Hochtannbergpass is first passed, then the Hotel Jägeralpe. Passing the valley station of the Jägeralp cable car, the Alte Salzstraße is constantly followed. ” Road” is, however, misunderstood in this case, because this over long distances natural path leads up, down and past countless shrubs and pine trees. The eyes always wander down into the narrow Krummbachtal valley. Passing the houses of the plot Wolfegg, you get back to the Steffisalp-Express after a few steps.
