Karhorn fixed rope route

Due to its moderate length and difficulty, this fixed rope route is also suitable for beginners. The ascent and descent do require a good fitness level, however. For those who do not feel entirely secure, experienced mountain guides are there to help.
From the starting point at the post office, take the free bus to Oberlech. Get off at the terminus “Schlössle”. Follow the asphalted road uphill to the right until you reach the viewpoint Tannegg. From here there is a forest road on the right downhill to a bridge. On the other side of the road we continue uphill to the Gaisbühelalpe. Over colourful mountain meadows, the trail climbs slowly uphill and downhill to Auenfeldsattel. Here you turn right and follow the path uphill to a fork. From here, you follow the narrow path uphill through the rugged rock until you reach the summit of the Karhorn (2,416 m) and back along the same path or via Bürstegg to the “Bodenalpe”bus stop.
Special features: Besides the obligatory hiking equipment, a rope climbing set and helmet must be taken along. Sights: Vorarlberg’s first fixed rope route ever was installed on the eastern ridge of the distinctive Karhorn. Refreshment stops: Restaurants in Warth, Bürstegg, Bodenalpe and restaurants in Lech am Arlberg.

Directions
Take the free hiking bus to Warth from the hike starting point at the post office. The (1) Steffisalp-Express will take you to the top station. Right after the top station, a path branches off to the left going uphill, which you should take. You will get to a basin, on the left side of which a path goes uphill to the saddle. Before taking the path on the right to the access point of the rope route, you can stop off at the peak of the Warther Horn (2,256 m) if you wish. To do so, turn left at the saddle and follow the sign-posted path to the peak. Back at the access point, follow the (2) fixed rope route to the (3) Karhorn peak (2,416m). In addition to plenty of climbing fun of difficulty levels II and III, a varied panorama awaits you, extending all the way to Valluga, Säntis and the Allgäuer Alps. The descent uses the normal route until the path leads onto a wider trail on the Karbühel. Here you can either turn left towards (4) Bürstegg and continue downhill to the (5) Bodenalpe, or your can turn right towards the Auenfeld saddle and then hike to Oberlech from there. In both cases, you can take the hiking bus back to the starting point in Lech am Arlberg.

Public transportation:
By train to Langen am Arlberg station or St. Anton am Arlberg. From there, buses (No. 750+760) run regularly to Lech Zürs am Arlberg.
Approach:
From Germany: Take the A96 motorway to Bregenz from there on the A14 motorway to Bludenz, continue on the S16 to the Lech Zürs am Arlberg exit. Follow the B197 up to Alpe Rauz, turn left here onto the B198 through Flexengalerie and over the Flexenpass to Lech Zürs am Arlberg.
From Switzerland: Via the A13 motorway and the Feldkirch, Hohenems or Lustenau border crossing on the A14 motorway to Bludenz. Continue on the S16 until exit Lech Zürs am Arlberg. Follow the B197 up to Alpe Rauz, turn left here onto the B198 through Flexengalerie and over the Flexenpass to Lech Zürs am Arlberg.
From Austria: Via the Inntalautobahn A12 and then via the S16 to the exit St. Anton am Arlberg (Arlberg Pass). Follow the B197 first through St. Anton, then through St. Christoph and over the Arlbergpass to Alpe Rauz. Turn right here onto the B198, drive through Flexengalerie and over the Flexenpass to Lech Zürs am Arlberg.
