- Au-Schoppernau | Three-pass tour (Hochtannbergpass/Flexenpass/Faschinajoch)
Au - Schröcken - Hochtannbergpass - Lech - Flexenpass - Alpe Rauz - Klösterle - Dalaas - Wald - Bludenz - Ludesch - Raggal - Sonntag - Faschinajoch - Damüls - Au.
The ride from Au via Schoppernau-Schröcken as far as the Hochtannbergpass (1,676 m) is continuously uphill. However, the 900-metre difference in altitude is spread over 18 km, and the climb comprising a few steep stretches is very even. The ride is accompanied by lovely views of a fascinating alpine world and reveals beautiful views of the valley. The descent into Warth is followed by a leisurely, bendy stretch as far as Lech (1,400 m), a fashionable winter sports resort which is also very inviting during the summer months. From Lech, you continue to the next pass, the Flexenpass (1,774 m). The demanding downhill run through the Flexengalerie, a historic protection structure, requires your full attention. Light and/or reflectors are advantageous. At the crossroads (Alpe Rauz), turn right towards Stuben and Langen. The tunnel can be circumvented on the left. At the roundabout, turn off to the right towards Klösterle. The tunnel before Klösterle is also easy to circumvent. L 97 Klostertalerstraße takes you through the villages of Klösterle, Dalaas, Braz towards Bludenz/Bings. Follow the road as far as Bludenz town centre. Suchard has its company headquarters in Bludenz, bestowing the town as it does with a sweet fragrance. Just after the train station, turn off to the left and on to L 190 Werdenbergerstraße. At the roundabout, take the first exit “Nüziders”. Ride through the village, past the popular “Hängender Stein” climbing garden, at the roundabout take the first exit towards Ludesch/Großes Walsertal. After about 2 km, the turn-off takes you to the Große Walsertal and to the last, long and arduous climb to the Faschinajoch (1,486 m). At a maximum incline of 10%, the road takes you through a forest as far as Raggal (1,100m), which affords you a magnificent view of what still lies ahead. First of all you descend to Sonntag-Garsella, located at an altitude of 735 m. Turn off to the right at the bridge. Now comes the actual climb: 14% of steep ramps and hairpin bends test your last reserves of strength. At Fontanella, there is a flat stretch of about 1 km before the last 3 km climb with a difference in altitude of 340 m to overcome. The Faschinajoch links the Große Walsertal with the Bregenzerwald. At the start of the 14-km long descent into Au, caution is advised. The protection gallery allows a high speed, but leads in to a dark tunnel. The magnificent descent into the valley is very windy.
