Montafoner Alpin- und Tourismusmuseum Gaschurn

Tourismus-Museum Gaschurn
Küche
  • The Montafon regional Alpine and Tourism Museum in the town of Gaschurn has been open to the public in its historic Montafon house since 1992. This old Walser house, with its strikingly simple and beautiful architecture, enjoys the impressive backdrop of the Silvretta and Verwall mountains. In its permanent and temporary exhibitions the museum – which was formerly the home of the priest, Alpine pioneer and church musician Franz Josef Battlogg (1836-1900) – today focuses on the history of Alpine life and tourism in the Montafon region.

The ”Frühmesser” Battlogg from Gaschurn gained an international reputation as a mountain pioneer and outstanding choirmaster in the late 1860s and 1970s. He called Gaschurn “the entrance to a world of mountains”, and numerous accounts of his mountain tours were published.
