Loacker House
-
In the city precinct of “Sägen”, at the eastern end of the Marktstrasse, stands the Loacker House. The former tavern “Kreuz” once operated a “Torggel” (winepress) here. Such winepresses were quite common in Dornbirn in earlier days, but they disappeared with the end of wine-growing activities in the 19th century. The neo-classical paintings date from around 1800. The name “Sägen” recalls a sawmill which was operated here long ago. The still existent “Müllerbach” water canal, built specifically for this sawmill, was later used by textile companies.
