Kulturbühne AMBACH event centre

Am Bach
  • Following years of preparation including location studies, excursions and even a referendum, the municipality organised an architectural competition in 1998 that was won by Switzerland’s Hubert Bischoff. The Kulturbühne AMBACH event centre was duly opened in 2000. Its design is closely related to that of its immediate neighbour, the old clubhouse, which features a decorated facade and is a terrific example of 1950s architectural style. In a reimagining of the clubhouse layout, the large event space is composed of several distinct parts: the towering stage area, the adjustable forestage area extending through to the orchestra pit, and the stalls arranged below the gallery level.

The oak interior fittings generate a warm, subtle impression of space, while the exterior of this new timber construction features a facade made of profiled glass elements. Thanks to its large windows facing the square, the restaurant provides a direct link to the street outside. As the erection of the new building coincided with the renovation of the old clubhouse, a foyer was added to connect old and new – and to enable greater flexibility in terms of spatial arrangement.

Both the name and address of the Kulturbühne AMBACH event centre are derived from the Emmebach stream located on the opposite side of the street, while a public art installation by Karlheinz Ströhle from Götzis sees the name of the facility written in giant letters on the facade. The foyer also contains a work by Götzis-based sculptor and conceptual artist Hubert Lampert.
