Franz-Michael-Felder Museum, Schoppernau

Franz-Michael-Felder Museum
Ausstellung
  • Franz-Michael Felder (1839–1869) was a farmer, writer, educator and social reformer. He was one of the most important historical personalities in the Bregenz Forest, and the most famous Vorarlberg writer of the 19th century. The Felder Museum is located on the upper floor of the new cultural and business building at the village center in Schoppernau.  A modern presentation of his life, times and work features a comprehensive sampling of original documents, excerpts from his works, and pictures.

Words, light and sound are central elements of the exhibition design. Carefully placed references lead visitors through the exhibits, to the display items, sound and film stations, and to locations in the village. Room-high windows provide glimpses of the village and views of the Kanisfluh, the most prominent mountain landmark in the hinterland of the Bregenz Forest. Visitors can purchase or check out books, or just retreat to a quiet corner of the well-endowed library to browse through some of Felder’s writings.
