Espan Schwende

Espan Schwende
Kulturweg: Espan Schwende

Factbox

  • An Espan was a free, unenclosed piece of pasture that belonged to the community. An Espan marked a section on a defined route, serving as a welcome stopover for humans and animals. Once again here at the farmstead of the Rinner family there was such an espana. Literally it says: “then at the gate Tobel in the Walßerthal an Espach, on which it is fair to stay over a night, at the of the Alb Ussfahrt.” (“Brand description of the Alpgutes Rohrmoos” from 1608. Th. Steiner) The chronicle says in 1608: “… an Espach on the Gattertobel in the Walßer Thal …” Thus, it is proven that the livestock herds from the Allgäu had spent the night here and rested before it went on to the then Breitachalp and into the area of the Alpe Rohrmoos.
