An impressive line-up of inns, restaurants and ski lodges serve classical fare and dishes from Vorarlberg with a creative twist, inspired by global cuisines. Special highlights are events dedicated to culinary specialities and wine.

People in Vorarlberg have always nurtured a penchant for the good things in life. Whether you opt for a rustic inn or an award-winning restaurant: Vorarlberg has pleasant surprises in store for foodies, offering impeccable quality. The recipe for success of Vorarlberg’s chefs is a long-standing close collaboration with local producers. Wherever possible, they source regionally and seasonally to conjure up hearty local fare or light dishes with a creative twist.

In addition to day-to-day business, some hosts from Vorarlberg give centre stage to regional specialities and wines in specially designed events. In combination with activities in the winterly landscape, guests enjoy the delicacies from the regional cuisine – classically prepared or creatively refined.

Culinary winter hikes in Bregenzerwald

According to the motto “Hiking and enjoying: step by step from course to course”, three winter hiking tours are available for culinary winter hiking in Bregenzerwald. During these day tours, breakfast, lunch and dessert are served in different mountain inns or restaurants, where you can warm up between the winter hikes in the snow-covered nature. You can choose between the Vorarlberg-Baysern-Alprunde Hittisau-Hochhäderich with the Almhotel Hochhäderich, the Hubertus Haus, the Hörmoos Alpe, the Berggasthaus Hochbühl and the Alpstüble Moos as well as the route through river and valley landscapes Mellau-Bizau-Bezau with the Sonne Lifestyle Resort Mellau, the Biohotel Schwanen Bizau and the Café Katrina. The third route Sibratsgfäll-Schönenbach leads over the gorge into Vorsäß with meals at the Hotel Gasthof Hirschen in Sibratsgfäll and the Jagdgasthaus Egender in Schönenbach.

See the Gourmet Region Kleinwalsertal with Snowshoes

From 20 December 2018 to 4 April 2019 there is the possibility to take part in guided culinary snowshoe hikes in the gourmet region Kleinwalsertal. On the weekly tour into the lonely corners of Kleinwalsertal, participants will learn more about the regional delicacies game and beef. In addition, Herbert Edlinger tells interesting facts and everything you need to know about agriculture and hunting in Kleinwalsertal. As a delicious refreshment during the 3.5-hour programme everyone can taste regional delicacies and products.

Genusserlebnis Brandnertal gourmet experience

Four of the region’s top chefs, one guest chef, local specialities such as venison, veal, trout and duck in combination with local herbs, seasonal vegetables and a relaxing atmosphere – these are the ingredients of the Genusserlebnis Brandnertal gourmet experience. Alternating and from regional to seasonal themes, the chefs organise special pleasure evenings in their restaurants during which they serve a multi-course menu, combining classic dishes and new creations. In 2019, the events will take place on the following themes and dates: “Calf & Crustacean” (8 January), “Poultry & Zander” (26 March), “Fawn & Trout” (21 May), “Culinary Festival” (16 July) and “Game & Poultry” (19 September).

Winter Pleasures Tour Brandnertal

From lodge to lodge and course to course: on the Winter Pleasure Tour Brandnertal you swoosh down on impeccably groomed runs and enjoy a three-course meal of regional delicacies, served on three different lodges. The trail can also be completed on foot or with snowshoes on panoramic hiking trails. There are two variants to choose from: The “Genusstour Brand” can be done with skis, on foot or with snowshoes. On this tour, starters are served in the Niggenkopfstüble, the main course in the Palüdhütte and dessert in the Alpengasthof Melkboden. The second option is the “Genusstour Bürserberg”, which can only be done on skis. The starters are served in the Restaurant Frööd, continuing with the main course in the ski hut Fuchsbau and concluding with dessert in the Rufana Alp.

Winterkulinarium in Großes Walsertal

In the Sonntag-Stein ski area, the Winterkulinarium Großes Walsertal takes participants on winter hiking trails from hut to hut, where culinary delicacies are served. From the top station of the Sonntag-Stein cable car, the winter hike on the prepared winter hiking trail leads over the Steinbild to the Alpen-Chalet Partom and back to the mountain station. On the way, the three culinary stations Cable car Stuba, Alpen-Chalet Partnom and biosphärenpark.haus each invites to a regional specialty. The culinary hike can be done individually or accompanied by a winter hiking guide.

Wine Tasting at VINNOVA wine tavern in Montafon

An extraordinary place for wine tastings is the VINNOVA wine tavern. At more than 2,000m above sea level at the mountain terminal of the Versettla cable car in the ski area Silvretta Montafon, VINNOVA is Vorarlberg’s highest wine tavern. Several times throughout the season, winemakers are invited to present their wines personally. The Vintner Evening on 26 January is dedicated to the South Tyrolean winery Alois Lageder, on 23 February Alois Gsellmann from Burgenland invites to taste his wines and on 27 March the Johanneshof Reinisch wine estates concludes the event series with Austrian wines. In addition, tastings on different themes relating to wine are held each week.
