Vorarlberg - a piece of Austria between Lake Constance and the Arlberg

Vorarlberg is Austria’s westernmost state. With an area of 2,600 square kilometers it accounts for only as much as 3 % of Austria’s total land area. Extending 95 kilometers from North to South, Vorarlberg is, however, unparalleled in its diversity of European landscape forms. From the “mediterranean” shores of Lake Constance (400 m altitude) over softly rolling hills, visitors can reach glacier-topped peaks (3,000 m altitude) just within an hour’s drive.

Holidays writ large..
What a stunning mountain scenery! Some peaks rise well above 3,000 meters. Cable cars gently take you uphill to the most magnificent vantage points. Vorarlberg is Austria’s westernmost state, right in the heart of Europe. Nestled in the border zone of Austria, Switzerland, Germany and the Principality of Liechtenstein, visitors value Vorarlberg’s central location.

Vorarlberg is known not only for its great scenic diversity, but also for its wealth of culture, outstanding works of contemporary architecture and as a site of many innovative companies.

Summertime visitors to Vorarlberg benefit from a broad range of activities, which include hiking, cycling, golfing and many other sports. With its splendid opera productions on one of the world’s largest floating stages, the annual Bregenz Festival (in July/August) marks the climax of the cultural year. In winter, Vorarlberg is the place to be for skiing: skiing in the world famous resorts on Arlberg and the Montafon or in one of the many smaller ski areas, cross-country skiing or hiking in a winter wonderland.

Cultural Highlights.
The cultural program: Vorarlberg is setting for numerous events all year round, for example the Bregenz Spring Dance Festival (March to May), the Bregenz Festival (July/August), the Feldkirch Festival (May) or the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg (May, June, August/September) and Hohenems (October to May).

Architectour is faszincating
Vorarlberg is known among connoisseurs as THE center of contemporary architecture in Europe. "The hills are alive with outstanding architecture" once wrote the renowned Wallpaper journal.
