What does a mountain forest smell like?
What do mountain meadows taste like?
Do sunrises fire the imagination?
Does mountain cheese strut proudly up and down?
Does nature educate

Set off on a journey to find the answers to these questions and much more! Discover the Biosphere Reserve in Grosses Walsertal! The people who work and live in this calm, romantically wild mountain valley are innovative and yet conscious of their traditions – and they consider the interaction between society, the economy, ecology and culture. This has helped the valley to gain, among other accolades, a UNESCO seal of approval for the “Biosphere Reserve”.

Discover this natural valley, left untouched with its Alps and mountain peaks, steep gorges, many roaring streams, waterfalls and the clear waters of the Seewald lake. 250 km of sign-posted hiking paths and special educational paths invite visitors to discovery journeys rich in new experiences. Issue forth on the flower educational path, the forest educational path and on guided tours in the nature reserve of Gadental, where the rich variety of orchids within a unique Alpine landscape will inspire you. Specially-trained Adventure Biosphere Reserve supervisors show groups how to learn from and with nature using hands-on methods.

Where the winter lives

Quietly the snowflakes fall in the Biosphere Reserve of Grosses Walsertal, turning the entire valley into a place of enchantment. Here in the mountains, winter makes itself at home. It is a time of red cheeks and crackling chimney fires, and crunching steps in soft snow.

In the small but high-quality ski areas in the Grosses Walsertal, both young and old can find plenty to do: In Raggal, beginners can practise on three cable lifts – in the middle of the village. For superior winter sportsmen and women, Sonntag-Stein has several challenges to offer. In Faschina, you can reside directly next to the lift. What more could a sporting heart wish for?!

Experience Carving from its best side and carry out your swings on free slopes in snow with great traction – whether on skis or on your snowboard! To get your breath back, practise the refreshment swing now and then at one of the mountain huts, or stop for a conversation with the lift supervisor. Those expecting long queues won’t find them in Grosses Walsertal!
